Company Overview

Sauber Motorsport is headquartered in Hinwil, in the Swiss canton of Zurich. Its state-of-the-art factory spans 15,600 square metres and includes one of the most advanced wind tunnels in motorsport.

The team’s legacy began in 1970 when Peter Sauber designed his first racing car, the C1, in his parents’ cellar. From early international success in the late 1980s as the Mercedes works team—including victories at the Le Mans 24-hour race and the World Sports Car Championship—the team entered Formula One® in 1993. Over the years, Sauber has celebrated highlights such as a fourth-place finish in the Constructors’ World Championship (2001) and a one-two victory at the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix during its partnership with BMW.
