As the year starts, our C.E.O Bernhard Fragner and the leadership at GlobeAir have provided their predictions for 2022 and how the year develop.
The focus and goal for 2021 were to set a recovery route after the effects of the introduction of the coronavirus, lockdown periods, and vaccine campaigns around the world. Last year, GlobeAir saw over 28% increase compared to 2020, while still reflecting an increase from 2019 at 23%.
We see private business aviation, for the first time, will help shape global connectivity and recovery on a faster growth trajectory.
The emergence of the new variant looks set to reverse some of the gains in 2021, at least to stall growth for the time being, which means that actions taken at the State level within the different countries in Q1 will be vital in determining how the private aviation industry further develops in 2022.
As the year starts, our C.E.O Bernhard Fragner and the leadership at GlobeAir have provided their predictions for 2022 and how the year develop.
Travel during the first quarter will be mainly focused on business and short day trips. Due to the Omicron variant, the number of booked flights is reduced compared to the same time last year.
With various European states adjusting travel regulations based on the current fifth wave, travellers are more aware of the stringency to abide by the restrictions so travellers are very cautious about adhering to them. Leisure tourism will be highly restricted and granted only to passengers and travellers who have received their third booster vaccination (France announced 01.01.2022 as mandatory measures). All travellers will experience more travel preparations on paperwork and CoViD-19 testing before travelling.
The biggest challenge for the beginning of the year will be monitoring as countries ramp up booster campaigns and manufacturers look to modify vaccines against new emerging variants; progress on both will enable a progressive relaxation of travel restrictions.
With an increase in flight bookings from April onwards, we will see more flight hours achieved than in 2021. As Europe moves into warmer summer months and the infection numbers decrease, passengers are willing to travel and experience unforgettable moments no matter what.
Like we saw back in 2021, there is an increased conversion of people into private jet travellers that eventually become regular customers. The significantly reduced supply of airlines means alternative travel options, which provide greater convenience for biosecurity concerns and large crowds being decreased considerably compared to traditional commercial operators.
Frequent flyers begin to understand the advantages of excellent service and trust from us. At the same time, new converters start with one trip deciding to fly repeatedly because they feel it's easier, convenient or better quality all round when you compare our services against competitors. With Coronavirus restriction relaxing, corporate and leisure travellers increase while fear over unknown risks reduces significantly, allowing passengers to move around freely without limitations.
Mid to late May marks the Summer opening as we enter our busiest period. Passengers will be looking for an opportunity to travel, relax and enjoy a well-deserved rest away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
As the beginning of the year brings fewer travel opportunities, Summer will see an increase in flights to our Summer hubs. Namely: Baleares, Marbella, Côte d'Azur, Corsica, Sardinia, Costa Amalfi, Greek Islands. This wave of travellers will bring growth to stimulate other new developing destinations like Tivat and Croatian airports as passenger volume increases.
Travelling by private jet to a Summer destination allows passengers to discover a welcoming culture, which has made luxury tourism one of its specialities.

Since the outbreak in 2020, business aviation has been viewed as more essential and is embraced by a larger cross-section of the business community. When a passenger starts to fly more flights per year, a private jet membership program like GlobeAir's DreamTeam JetCard starts to become very attractive.
As more planning is required, travellers are becoming more aware and want to fly on their terms, whether it is to their favourite destinations, flying activities, and business meetings. Choosing a Jet Card is the freedom of travelling whenever you wish and with high flexibility rather than timetables.
A frequent flyer membership program helps passengers save time and costs when flying privately. We saw a big increase in demand in 2021 with us providing our second One Million Jet Card to a Tech Entrepreneur in Munich, Germany, and we see the demand to increase exponentially in 2022.
Supply chain reliability remains a risk, and capacity is still down about 20% from pre-pandemic levels. Flight prices will increase as inflation is expected to rise to an all-time high energy, raw material and fuel costs.
As prices rise due to inflation, passengers will be stuck paying more for their flights and might even face difficulties finding seat availability.
This may dampen demand and temper the sector's recovery from this pandemic. Flying private with GlobeAir will provide passengers with the peace of mind that they will arrive at their destination promptly in time for the next appointment.
As the demand for private jet charter grows, so will the market for unprofessional operators who offer illegal charters. A grey charter is an operation that does not have an Air Operator Certificate (A.O.C.). This means they are not required to abide by any safety requirements placed on a company with an A.O.C.
These unauthorised private flights are a network of fly-by-night operators and brokers who exploit unknowing customers and fly passengers illegally. Unfortunately for unaware flyers, paying for a charter flight is illegal when no valid AOC exists. In addition, operators without an AOC cannot take payment for profit to perform commercial passenger flights.
Therefore, it is crucial that as an industry, we work together and help fight against illegal chartering through education and awareness campaigns.
Customers will be more demanding for an all user experience around the flight booking, and flight management process and customers will expect to have everything linked to their flights in one place.
GlobeAir will invest in a native iOS app for iPhones and Android apps in 2022 and continue to develop my.globeair.com. GlobeAir needs to stay connected to its customers at all times, both before and after the flight, to send out information related to flight prices, pre-and post-flight details, and unique or emergency announcements.
GlobeAir has also been accepting payments with cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (B.C.H.) and Dogecoin (DOGE) as a preferred payment method for any private jet booking for more than a year now via BitPay.
The GlobeAir DreamTeam has a big focus on digitalisation as the entire world develops and progresses. The ongoing pandemic has accelerated this process for almost two years, and this digitisation pace is not slowing down. At GlobeAir, we have developed various KPI dashboards we have designed to track customer satisfaction, more than 4,000 WhatsApp conversations with customers; over 11 million Google search results for GlobeAir and more than two terabytes of data was generated by our team in 2021, and 45 thousand online quotes were processed automatically through the website. We have implemented the WhatsApp messaging tool as one of our main communication channels resulting in a 33% decrease in time taken to address customer queries.
Passengers have an increased awareness of biosecurity risks, we will see a continued need to make passengers feel safe throughout their travels. We have learnt since the pandemic started that we all need to be aware of our responsibilities: not touching others or crowds and maintaining social distance.
One can quickly appreciate the decisive moments when, sometimes without realising it, we underestimate the danger of crowds of strangers we encounter during the different stages of a commercial flight journey. The comparison reveals why and at which step of your trip, a private jet charter flight can be safer than a commercial one.
GlobeAir has scientifically proven that when flying by private jet, there are only 20 possible touchpoints of contact compared to 700 potential touchpoints with a commercial operator, which is riskier in terms of infection risk-safety awareness will remain a driving force for business aviation growth.
During the C.O.P. 2021, there was a great emphasis on world leaders arriving in Glasgow by private jet, which has shifted the spotlight on how the aviation industry will progress and set their goals to overcome the CO₂ emissions.
Sustainability is embedded in all GlobeAir products and initiatives. We are conscious of the status of the environment and committed to doing our part. We know how important it is to comply with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. We will strive to reach our sustainability goals by 2030 as well as fitting into the three-tiered sustainability label called S.T.A.R.S. - "Standards & Training for Aviation Responsibility and Sustainability", which is supported by the European Business Aviation Association (E.B.A.A.) and the International Business Aviation Council (I.B.A.C.).
There have already been significant developments in the research of synthetic fuels, which will be an essential part of decarbonising aviation.
