Yesterday, October the 14th, flight AZ1586 was the last flight taken by the iconic Italian airline Alitalia – Società Aerea Italiana S.p.A., to hand the flag carrier torch on to the newly founded ITA.

When Italy's flag carrier Alitalia, the largest airline of Italy and SkyTeam alliance member, became a thing of the past, GlobeAir remembers the historical airline by paying homage to Italy with a dedicated GlobeAir design that commemorates the event. The history of Alitalia

With its head office in Rome, the airline had gone through economic difficulties for years. Wholly owned by the Government of Italy since 17 March 2020, Alitalia operated a fleet of Airbus A319, Airbus A320, Airbus A321, Airbus A330-200, and Boeing 777-200ER aircraft to over 34 scheduled domestic, European and intercontinental destinations. In 2018, the airline was the twelfth-largest airline in Europe.
